Prawns Egg Devil / Egg devil with prawns!!


Deem er devil or egg devil is a famous street food from Kolkata and is very different from deviled eggs. Though scotch eggs are closer but still who can beat the bongs when it comes to deep fried goodness. 

With time there has been many delicious variations of the egg devil and here I bring my version of super easy prawns egg devil. Do try it, its simple and yet Oh So Delicious!!

So lets get started.

Ingredients 

Here I have given measurement for 4 egg devil

Prawns : 4 (Big size) We will add one prawn in each egg devil.
Potatoes : 2 (Big Size ) 
Egg : 2 (We will use half a egg in each)
Bread Crumbs : 1 cup
Tomatoes : 1
Onions : 2
Egg : Beaten 1 (or may be 2 )
Red Chilly : 1 teaspoon ( Kashmiri red chilly , you can use the normal one too)
Garlic paste : 1 tablespoon
Ketchup : 3 table spoon
Oil for frying and making the potato mixture.
Salt as per taste.

Procedure :

I have lightly fried the eggs in a pan because I like the texture of fried boiled eggs, this is not necessary and you can totally skip this part.

I have also lightly fried the prawns after marinating them in salt , turmeric and very little garlic paste. You should not skip this part . :)

Take a pan, heat oil around 3 tablespoon and add the sliced onions and let them cook on medium flame for about 5 minutes till they turn translucent.

Once they turn translucent add the garlic paste and again cook for another 5 minutes till they have become light brown and raw smell of garlic  has gone.

Now add the tomatoes and cook.

Once the tomatoes have cooked properly, turned mushy and the onions, garlic and tomatoes have combined together, add the ketchup and the red chilly powder. You can add normal red chilly powder or green chilly also, but I don't like it very spicy hence I add Kashmiri red chilly.

Cook the ketchup for two minutes and add the boiled mashed potatoes also add in the salt now.

Cook the potatoes for 2 minutes and now add half of your bread crumbs. And give everything a good mix and cook for another 2 minutes.

Your potato mixture is ready. This mixture will coat the eggs and the prawns. Let it cool

Cut the eggs into half and keep aside.

Take a big ball size potato mixture in your palm and flatten it by pressing , place one half egg and a prawn on top of it then cover it with the remaining potato mixture. Using both the palms press and give shape.

Make sure there is no crack and the outer surface is even. Else it will break.

Now take the beaten egg with a pinch of salt in one bowl and bread crumbs in another plate.

Use your right hand to roll in the beaten egg and left hand to roll in the bread crumbs. Don't mix the hands else you will end up in a mess. So the fun part begins. Roll in egg and roll in bread crumbs and repeat this step twice.

After you have rolled it twice, it should look dry and not mushy.
Fry the Egg devil on medium heat and make sure it is evenly fried from all the sides.Serve it hot with some kasundi (mustard sauce ) or enjoy it with some muri makha!!!
